This one-story home was designed for an elderly client with accessibility in mind. The symmetrically balanced design evokes a sense of calm and tranquility, whilst bright colors interspersed in the décor create a cheerful atmosphere.

Yellow was chosen for the external wall to contrast with the green landscape, and graceful curves of the entrance stair give the house a feminine air.

Attention was paid to local architectural elements; simplifying the proportions and incorporating them into the design. These vernacular details include the combination of the pitched roof, the chimney detail, and the wooden roof structure.

The overlapping roof reflects tropical architecture and the wooden roof shingles bring to mind village houses in the countryside of the northern region of Thailand.

Chiang Mai is famous for its wood carving, and local artists were engaged by the architect to produce custom items for the house. Two such items are the teak elephant on the roof and the antique wooden entrance door.
