Surat Thani is a large province in the south of Thailand rich in natural resources and local culture. It is also the economic center which generates high income for the South from a number of cash crops such as rubber, coconuts and palm oil. Central Plaza Surat Thani aims to support and promote the region's econimoc growth.

The site was originally an old, abandoned coconut field, which inspired the architect to apply this theme to create a unique façade for the shopping mall. The coconut frond structure was translated to the screen façade, reflecting the history of site and alluding to Surat Thani’s status as a popular seaside tourist destination. Landscape and interior design also used the same concept, playing with coconut leaf patterns, thus integrating all the design disciplines.

The building’s exterior color was selected to create a resort theme by using earth tones for the façade and the randomly painted precast wall. From a distance, the building appears to blend into the mountain background. With its palm fronds and color scheme, Central Plaza Surat Thani always evokes a sense of warm welcome and relaxation.
