Surrounded by rice fields in a suburb of Chiang Mai, the Osataphan residence consists of three buildings : a main house for the owners, a guest house alongside a swimming pool , and a “pavilion” forming around the central courtyard. The latter is connected spatially with the south garden through a big covered terrace ground level. Thanks to the sloping garden at the front, design to conceal the first floor, the house looks as if it is a single-story house sitting peacefully on a slope.

The designer opted for large openings so as to create a light, airy, and spacious interior that interacts well with the landscape and works well in the tropical climate. The long roof overhang helps protect the house from sun and rain. Indirect daylight from the dormer windows gives the living room its uniqueness and charm.
Furthermore, the orientation of the central courtyard gives the house a wonderful panoramic view of Doi Suthep, the landmark mountain of Chiang Mai, and magnificent hundred-year-old “Bho” tree in the south garden. Here, the house and Chiang Mai become one.
