Central Pattana Public Company Limited wanted to create an iconic structure and landmark of the city. The main idea is to design an innovative structure that would be accepted locally and internationally. The highway that is a main passageway to the northeast of Thailand overlooks the site making structure visible from many directions. The building would become the gateway to downtown Khon Kaen since it clearly stands out from the surrounding area. The unique design was inspired by the Khon Kaen local identity and distinct lifestyle where local silk patterns were expressed on the faade of the building. Steel acts as a second skin of the structure. It is the main support used to hold up the faade to the main building. The idea of basketry was incorporated since it is a craftwork that can be found throughout the city. The horizontal weaving of the structure imitates Thailand famous wickerwork. It was used to emphasize the front part of the building at the corner of the street which is visible from the highway. Perforated steel sheets were installed on top of the steel frame on the curved form giving the structure a lightweight feel. In addition, the perforated steel sheets would be lit up with colorful LED lights at night creating an interesting facade. Lightings were designed specifically for different occasions such as Valentine Day or Chinese New Year which would give the building more movement and creates a dynamic experience from a distance.
