Upon new ownership, the worn out shopping center located in the south-west of Bangkok transformed to a newly designed mall. Both the faade and the interior were remodeled creating a new image for the building. The innovative faade of the shopping center generates a new vibe to the surrounding area where the appealing design and use of bright color attract people to the shopping center. As a renovation project, most of the existing structure had to be preserved and limited budget became a part of the design decision. Architects and engineers had to ensure that appropriate construction method was applied as well as crosschecked whether the structure was able to take the new load of the faade. They realized that the existing hollow precast concrete wall isn t strong enough to hold up the faade so additional support was needed. Steel was the material that was selected since it is durable and lightweight. Vertical supporting steel was inserted behind the precast wall to give more strength to the structure of the 2nd skin facade. Orange painted aluminum composite panel was used for faade allowing the building to be visible from a distance. Gaps between different panels were intentionally done to enable light through the interior of the building. The undulating faade helps lighten up the building as a whole and also enhance the atmosphere in the district.
