Meliá Bangkok Sukhumvit is a 244-room, 33-storey hotel from the Meliá group.
Bangkok's unique identity forms the central design concept, with every space
and architectural element within the building conceived to immerse guests in
the character of the city.
In searching
for what defines Bangkok, the prang of Wat Arun stands as the most immediate
and iconic image. Its architectural detail is unmistakable with small,
diamond-shaped glazed tiles covering the tower's surface, catching the light
and casting ever-shifting shadows. It is an image that is uniquely and
instantly recognisable as Bangkok. This visual language was adopted as the
primary architectural motif of the façade, and carried consistently through the
landscape design and interior throughout.
Guest room
façades are designed as full floor-to-ceiling glass, carefully balanced between
solar heat gain and the quality of view from within. While the exterior may
appear to have glazing on only half of each bay, curtains fitted to the solid
portions soften the boundary and create a sense of openness and unobstructed
outlook from inside the room.
Given the
site's narrow footprint and the low-rise shophouses that block views at street
level, an analysis of the best vantage points led to a key design decision. All public areas were allocated to the
uppermost floors, ensuring every guest experiences the city panorama whether
checking in, dining, at the bar, or by the pool. The ground floor reception
serves as an introduction, setting the mood before guests are brought up to the
Sky Lobby on the 31st floor. Connected seamlessly to the All Day Dining space
on the 30th floor, this expansive double-level area is enveloped in a glass
curtain wall that frames a panoramic view of the city, creating an
unforgettable first impression. Above, the rooftop bar features a
transparent-floored pool, establishing a visual connection down to the night
bar below, with the interplay of light and shadow through the water keeping the
space in constant, animated motion.
